Baltimore 1962: Tracy Turnblad is a chubby teenager with a balloon hairstyle. She dreams of being able to dance in the popular television show "The Corny Collins Show" and of winning the "Miss Teenage Hairspray" competition. While her overweight mother Edna is skeptical, her father encourages her. Then Tracy actually dances in the television show, becomes famous overnight and a role model for many teenagers, she wins the "Hairspray" competition and falls in love with the attractive singer Link Larkin. And she uses her new fame to launch a successful campaign against racial segregation and gets black teenagers allowed to dance in the "Corny Collins Show". Hairspray thus becomes a powerful message of respect, tolerance and hope for all those who do not fit into common ideas because of their appearance, their origins or their talent. The songs from the era of rhythm and blues, Motown and rock 'n' roll guarantee a feel-good show. (https://www.freilichtspiele-hall.de/ Veranstaltung/hairspray.html)
